  10. Congratulations and thank you for trying HandWeb. This is a demo version,
  11. intended to show you how convenient it can be to be able to browse
  12. the Web from your PalmPilot organizer.
  13.  
  14. Excuse us for the inconvenience, but this version is limited in the following 
  15. ways: the URLs you can visit are hard-coded into HandWeb. There is no limit to 
  16. the number of links you can follow, but you may not enter your own locations.

  19. HANDWEB OVERVIEW

  22. HandWeb is an amazingly powerful Web browser that lets you use your PalmPilot 
  23. Professional organizer or IBM WorkPad to search and surf the Internet just as 
  24. you would from a full-sized desktop computer. YouÆll be able to keep up with 
  25. news services, the stock market, weather reports, or even connect to your own 
  26. company's Intranet easily wherever you go.

  28. HandWeb displays the text contents of World Wide Web pages regardless of their 
  29. graphical appearance. Just point and click your way to new sites, add 
  30. bookmarks of your favorite pages, and even save entire Web pages for off-line
  31. browsing or as Memo Pad documents.

  34. * For PalmPilot Professional connected organizers, IBM WorkPad PC Companions 
  35.   and compatibles
  36. * Connects right to the Web through your regular Internet Service Provider
  37. * Supports search engines, pages with fill-in forms, and more
  38. * Lets you organize bookmarks in customizable folders
  39. * Stores Web pages for off-line browsing or as Memo Pad documents
  40. * Offers complete navigation buttons
  41. * Includes Cache and History features for fast access to recent pages
  42. * May also be used through firewalls or proxy servers (not required)
  43. * Downloads new applications, documents, and databases directly into your 
  44.   PalmPilot or WorkPad

  59. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  60. ===============================================================================

  62. HandWeb 1.1 may be used with 3Com PalmPilot Professional and other compatible
  63. personal organizers such as the IBM WorkPad. Approximately 125 Kb of free 
  64. system memory are needed to use the application.

  68. INSTALLATION
  69. ===============================================================================

  71. When upgrading from an earlier version already on the PalmPilot, you do not 
  72. need to remove previous versions of HandWeb before installing this vesion.

  75. To install the HandWeb 1.1 Demo on your PalmPilot organizer or compatible:
  76.  
  77. 1.  Place the unit in its cradle, and check the cable connection to your 
  78.     Windows or Macintosh desktop computer
  79.  
  80. 2.  Copy the file HWeb110D.prc to your hard disk (or install it directly 
  81.     from the floppy drive)
  82.  
  83. 3.  Start the application InstApp.exe (Windows) or InstallApp (Mac) in your 
  84.     desktop computer. Use the Browse button to locate and select the file
  85.     HWeb110D.prc
  86.  
  87. 4.  Your selection will be confirmed, and HandWeb will be copied to your 
  88.     Pilot next time you run HotSync.

  90. 5.  Perform a HotSync to load the application onto the Pilot:
  91.  
  92.     - Start the HotSync Manager application in your desktop computer
  93.  
  94.     - Press the HotSync button on the Pilot cradle to begin file transfer.

  98. WHAT'S NEW
  99. ===============================================================================

  101. HandWeb 1.1 offers many powerful new features. Here is a summary of the most
  102. important improvements:
  103.  
  104. - The HandWeb user interface and general display of Web pages have 
  105.   been improved.
  106.  
  107. - Support for forms (searches, fill-in forms, data entry-fields) 
  108.   has been added.
  109.  
  110. - Cache has been implemented, allowing recently stored pages to remain
  111.   in memory. There is also a "Purge" feature to clean the cache.
  112.  
  113. - A "Preferences panel" has been added, with settings for Cache 
  114.   and time-out values.
  115.  
  116. - Pages can now be saved permanently and viewed offline.
  117.  
  118. - HTTP redirection handling has been enhanced.
  119.  
  120. - POST is now supported.
  121.  
  122. - More explicit error messages are displayed to the user.
  123.  
  124. - Bigger pages can be loaded.
  125.  
  126. - The URL popup menu appears now only after holding the stylus down 
  127.   for half a second; otherwise links are "instant".
